Restoring Safety and Empowerment Through Legal Support

Loss, Then Harm, Then Harassment

Jyothi lost her first husband within three months of marriage. She remarried with her family's blessing, but the marriage was never formally registered, and over five years she lived through escalating abuse — including incidents that put her life at risk — before she fled with her daughter. Eight years of separation later, her estranged husband resurfaced, sending obscene messages and turning up to disrupt her workplace and her daughter's school.

How Shakti Public Charitable Trust Helped

Immediate counselling gave Jyothi space to process what she'd been through and regain her footing. She was directed to the police station with jurisdiction over her case, where officers formally cautioned her husband, and guided through a formal complaint to the cyber security department, who acted on it quickly. Her lawyer weighed the situation carefully, given the eight years of separation, always keeping Jyothi's own interests at the centre of the decision.

Safety, Finally

The cyber security department's involvement brought police action and a formal warning that ended the harassment for good. Jyothi describes a renewed sense of safety, and can now put her full attention back on her work and her daughter.

Names and personal details have been changed to protect the identities involved.
